    If you can add an eSIM there, the phone supports it. Menu names change a little from brand to brand.

Unlocked phones only. A phone locked to a carrier cannot add an eSIM from another provider, even when the model supports eSIM. Ask your carrier to unlock it before you travel.

Yes. A phone locked to a carrier cannot add an eSIM from another provider, even when the model supports eSIM. On an iPhone, open Settings, General, About: Carrier Lock should read "No SIM restrictions". On Android, ask your carrier whether the phone is unlocked.

iPhones sold in mainland China do not support eSIM. iPhones sold in Hong Kong and Macao do not support it either, except the iPhone 13 mini, the iPhone 12 mini, the iPhone SE (2020) and the iPhone XS.

Yes, on the iPad models in the list, and only on their Wi-Fi + Cellular versions. Wi-Fi only iPads have no mobile connection, so they cannot use an eSIM.
